Feather River Grove has a Pagan Scouting program! In our Scouting program kids can earn merits for working their way down the Pagan path and for doing community service projects, learning about the environment, and teaching each other about the world we live in.
We have four levels of scouts in the organization:
Acorns Age 0-5
For ages 0 to 5, the Acorns program is a comprehensive, hand-on program that teaches our young ones the virtues of Paganism from a very young age. This program takes an applied approach and requires a minimum number of volunteer hours from the scout’s parents.
Sprouts Age 6-10
For ages 6 to 12, the Sprouts program is also very hands-on. Children will have their first campout without their parents and will attend field trips and do various merit projects to earn badges. They will learn more about Pagan history and core beliefs at this stage and participate in charity or community service work.
Saplings Age 11-13
For ages 11-13, Saplings programs include a wide range of topics, including hands-on projects and field trips. Scouts will begin to learn about being responsible for younger members and take more of a leadership role. Saplings can earn badges, serve on the color guard, participate in community service projects and learn about core beliefs and cosmology.
Oaks Age 14+
Oaks learn even more about Paganism. At this point they are legally allowed to join the organization and may begin to work on their program. They will learn even more about Pagan history and begin learning about liturgy as well, while balancing their relationship with the Spirits. Oaks, will assist in leading some scouting events for younger members and continue working on various merit projects that correspond to elements of Paganism, including the Program.
We have completed our merit/badge system for the Scouting program but welcome additional ideas.
